What software do I need to connect?

If you just want to connect to the network you won't need any extra software. All the software you need to connect to the network will be included in your operating system.

What software do I need to run a node?

In order to run a node you will need to run a DHCP server which will automatically allocate an IP address to people who wish to connect to your node. A small amount of technical expertise is required to set up the node to share a broadband connection, or to forward on traffic to another node.

You will need to run a firewall to ensure the security of your home network and internet connection.

Some of these functions are provided by wizards under Windows 2000 and XP, a more secure solution is to use GNU/Linux.
