manchesterwireless.net is now a charity!

Things have been a little quiet recently, but a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes.

manchesterwireless.net is now setup as a charity!  A group of the more senior members - myself, Harry, Darren, Tim, and Ewan put together a manchesterwireless.net charitable constitution and put our names to it.

Why did we do this?  Well, it puts the project on a much better footing if we have a formal document outlining who we are and what we do. Having charitable status opens up avenues to obtain grants for the development of the project. Since signing the constitution I've put in two funding applications - one to the Manchester Community Chest, and one to the ALLNet Community Chest.

The idea is that with a little bit of funding, and a lot more organisation we can better achieve the goals of the project.

A copy of the manchesterwireless.net constitution is publicly available at:

If you have any questions or comments regarding the charity, then you should email them to a member of the management comittee [addresses are at the end of the constitution].

I know 'setting up' as a Charity is a bit official sounding, and a little bit beauraucratic, but we are doing this because we believe it is the logical step to move the project forward. I hope everyone is happy with this - all of our members deserve a big pat on the back - for a grass-roots project we've come a long way in the last year - Here's to the next one!
